Description
General Information
• To learn how to model uncertainty using probability
• Understand common probability distributions - Discrete and Continuous random variables, how to use it in applications
• Understand the concept of conditional expectation and its role in inference.
• Operations on single Random Variable and Pair of Random Variables
• Learn the Random Process and its applications
• Learn PRP as a tool to understand core engineering application
• Associate probability theory to engineering practice
• Create a strong basis for Digital Communications, Information Theory, Coding Theory, Image Processing, Speech Analysis, Synthesis and Recognition, and similar courses that are commonly found in
• Learn a course to match the ABET standard
30% Mid-term examination
5% for Piazza class discussions
15% Assignments (Problem solving – Total five – Due at every 21 days )
10% Special Assignment-Report submission and Presentation: Modeling of daily Life Uncertainty (Modeling, Coding and Problem Solving)
Note: There will be no make-up evaluation component for mid-term examination, class presentation and project report submission. There will be one make-up examination for the students who miss end-term examination. For this the students must seek prior permission from the course coordinator. Student shall have to produce sufficient evidence to prove the genuineness of his/her absence from end-term examination. The schedule for end-term make-up exam will be announced later. The student who miss the make-up examination as well shall have to repeat the course.
• Each group consists of max two students. The students have autonomy to choose the partner.
• The objective of the special assignment is to encourage students to observe and find the daily life uncertainty and model it using concepts of probability and random processes.
• The Special Assignment will be carried out during the entire semester and the final report is to be submitted in the month of April 21, 2016.
Detailed instructions will be provided in class.

Announcements
Dear Students,
We will show you answer-books of PRP End-Semester exam as per following slots :
Dear students,
I am writing this to share my feelings with you. I don't know where I am doing a mistake to teach a PRP course. You can share your views if you find me wrong. It is a painful to hear that one student is trying to manipulate the entire ecosystem what we have set for our overall development. I think such behavior demotivates professors to work hard for the students.
I am sure you have received an email on google group ID ictianzz@googlegroups.com with the subject title "Loophole for Shoutkey" to enter the google feedback form link of the individual group. This is something intolerable action done by one student.
I don't know what should I do! or How to react on it! This kind of behavior resists us to work hard for each student.
Important Decisions: You are free to go home once you complete your presentation. No need to remain present in a class to learn or to motivate others. I realize my mistake. If you don't have an empty stomach no one can feed you. I request you all never do such things once you passed out from the institute. You are not living alone. A society, parents, institute, schools are always connected with us even if you would like to detach from it but you can't.
Thank you.
With best regards,
Dhaval
Dear students,
Respective teams can upload their presentation PPT one day before their presentations via google drive shared folder by 11.59 P.M.
Hence, Daywise extended submission dates for teams will be 7-8-9 May 2017 by 11.59 P.M
Dear students,
We will show you answer-books of PRP End-Semester exam on Wednesday (10/5/2017) at 4:30 P.M. After completion of Special assignment presentation at lecture room 106.
Dear All,
Calculation for Piazza Class participation will be evaluated as per following. We have considered the statistics as on date of 3/5/2017 by 11:00 A.M.
Parameters for Calculation:
- Number of days online = 0.5 (10 % of 5 Marks)
- Number of Post viewed = 1.5 (30 % of 5 Marks)
- Number of contribution = 3 (60 % of 5 Marks)
- Maximum value of Number of Days online from class= 100
- Maximum value of Number of Post viewed from class = 295
- Maximum value of Number of contribution from class = 53
Final Formula for Piazza class participation for each student which gives marks out of 5:
Dear Students,
All students are requested to gather at 106 on Friday(5/5/2017) after your Economics Paper for 15 minutes. (@ 11:10 A.M.)
There are few important announcements will be done related to special assignment presentation.
Dear all,
You need to submit a zip file as per deadline on tomorrow except PPT.
A team can submit final PPT presentation anytime on or before 7th May 2017 by 5.00 pm.
Note :You need to share zip file and PPT separately inside your shared folder via Google drive ( I.e. PRP_SA_G01). Follow the submission guidelines as per Piazza announcement of 7/4/2017.
Dear Students,
Schedule of Special Assignment for each team is given excel-sheet.
Each team is requested to check compatibility of their laptop with Class Room Projector of Room No -106 before presentation to save timings.
The teaching staff has posted a new general resource.
