Description

Semantic Web is the next generation Web. It is about DATA on the Web not just text and annotations. Since the current Web is too BIG, it is difficult to search, find, understand and utilize the information in this vast network for people and for computers, too. If "meaning" or "semantics" can be added to identify and annotate data on the web then it will be much more easier for computers to process the BIG DATA on the web and turn in into information that can be utilized by many different applications.

In this course we will review the most recent protocols, languages, technologies and tools that are used to build the Semantic Web.

Abstract

Named Entity Disambiguation (NED) is a task of identifying the correct references of named entities that appear in a text. NERFGUN is a system that is trained using machine learning algorithms to link named entities to Wikipedia articles. Question Answering (QA) is a task of retrieving information from a database or text using natural language queries. AMUSE is a multilingual QA system that uses Factor Graphs.

Biography

Sherzod Hakimov studied computer science at TOBB ETU He also finished his master's degree at the same University. Later on he joined Semantic Computing Group at Bielefeld University, Germany to pursue his Doctorate Degree. He's been working on developing Natural Language Processing systems using Machine Learning algorithms.

Class cancelled today! (Nov 7, 2017)

Today's class is cancelled due to a meeting I have. Class notes are posted (OWL, 1 and 2). Please read those and read the book. I will post an assignment today or tomorrow about those so that you are ready for the exam :-)
