Description

"When people think about computer science, they imagine people with pocket protectors and thick glasses who code all night." -- Marissa Meyer.

"Computer science is no more about computers than astronomy is about telescopes." -- Edsger Dijkstra.

"The rise of Google, the rise of Facebook, the rise of Apple, I think are proof that there is a place for computer science as something that solves problems that people face every day." -- Eric Shmidt.

Announcements

do not use TOTAL column in BB
5/14/14 12:34 PM

Dear students,

Please do not use any TOTAL column in BB to calculate your grades. I did not create the column, nor do I have control over its visibility; in fact, when I look at BB, I don't even see a total column.

You'll need to take the raw scores in BB and apply the appropriate weights to them to get your final grade (or just look on Patriotweb)

when will grades be up?
5/12/14 4:51 PM

Sorry everyone, the scantron machine was not available by the time I got out of my afternoon exam (their office closes at 4 in the summer). Unfortunately, I will have to wait until tomorrow to run scantrons through the machine.

do I have your phone?
5/12/14 11:39 AM

someone that took the morning exam;

please meet me in Planetary Hall room 131 at 2:30pm, if you can. If not, let me know.

Dr. Snyder's Section: Exam Today at noon
5/12/14 4:13 AM

Just a reminder, Dr. Snyder's section (CS112-003) is having its exam today (Monday 5/12) at noon, in our usual classroom. Please bring:

  • a scantron (same as last times)
  • your GMU ID
  • pencils (please, don't use pen)
  • your best effort!

I've been sick with a minor plague but I think I'll be ready to prop myself up front just long enough to answer all your questions and get through our exam... any lingering email correspondence will be addressed prior to my calculating/posting final grades.

Good luck! See you soon.

~Prof. Snyder

grades in BB
5/08/14 11:20 PM

Dear students,

You should have grades for all assignments in BB now. Please note the following:

- we unexpectedly lost the services of two GTAs at the end of this semester, when three projects and some coding exercises needed grading. Consequently, grading had to be assigned to the remaining GTAs and professors. In the interest of time, we collectively did not comment all the submissions. If you would like comments on any of the projects, please email your respective instructor (myself or Prof Snyder); we'd be happy to provide more feedback per request.

- quiz 1 will be dropped for students that missed the quiz due to a snow day. Out of fairness to all students, we have decided to allow quiz 1 to be dropped (in addition to another drop) for all students, *if* that improves their grade.

- the grades for project 6 have been recorded. Please see @1887 if you have questions about the grading. Test cases used to grade your code, as well as the solution, are available.

Please review all of your grades before you take your final, to make sure they are recorded correctly. Let us know before the final if any grade is missing or incorrect. (I believe project 4 grades have been updated according to Wednesday's resubmissions; if not, please allow until Friday 5/9 at 5:00pm for those changes to take place.)

Please bring a photo ID to the final.

Good studying and see you next week!

Snyder's Class: today's review
5/08/14 8:55 AM

Just a reminder for Dr. Snyder's students:

Today's class time is more like a group office hour; please bring questions! If nobody is asking me questions after a point, then the review session will conclude. I haven't written the final exam yet, so I cannot answer questions of the form, "will you ask us X on the test?".

office hours this week for Prof Kinga
5/05/14 8:37 AM

Dear students,

I will hold office hours today (Monday) as normal.

Tuesday my office hours will be from 1:30-2:30.

Wednesday my office hours will be from noon-1:00

I will not be on campus the rest of the week, but I will be on Piazza as usual.

4/30/14 2:35 PM

updated the specs to clarify that the list of bags is an argument (see the tests.py)
