Grades are posted!
12/18/14 10:29 PM

Dear CSC 226 students,

Congratulations! Grades are posted. Here are the numbers across both sections.

Average 86.7; Median 90.92; St Dev 14.58

This means that most people made a B or above.  This is my intention and matches with my historical grades. I hope that you feel you learned useful things, and I would love to hear from you later how you feel the class prepared you for other classes and work.

Have a great holiday. Best wishes for the new year and beyond.

Check webassign grades

Grades posted to webassign

Dear CSC 226 students,

I have uploaded all exam scores to webassign.

The calculation of grades is slightly different than you may have expected. The way it is done is this: Final-section 4 counts for 6% of your grade. All other sections were uploaded under the Test1, Test2, and Test3 categories. If you made a higher score than your original, it replaced your original (e.g. one in each of these categories is dropped). If you did not, then that score DOES NOT COUNT AT ALL - and your grade is based on 18% for each of tests 1-3 and 6% for section 4 of the final.

This makes for 60% of your grade being due to tests as described in the syllabus. THis should result in a HIGHER grade than the average of the best 2 sections (discounting section 4 since it's less of the class) on the final. However if you feel that you are missing any scores or you wish to weight your final grade by more please make a private piazza post by 9 pm tonight.

If you do not see this but wish to make a change email me ASAP and we can discuss.

I enjoyed having all of you in class. Thanks for your hard work, and best of luck in your future endeavors.

Tiffany Barnes

IMPORTANT - Peer Tutors Exempt From Final
12/09/14 7:37 PM

Go look at your logs in the Weekly Logs post @161. If you do not have a comment from me, Meredith, or Dr. Barnes on your most recent log confirming your 10 hours, then you MUST take the final.

If you believe you have done 10 hours of Peer Tutoring but you do not have a post, please follow up with me here before the final.

Review textbook for probability
12/09/14 6:43 PM

Hi, I have posted the textbook for you to review the probability material at http://www4.ncsu.edu/~tmbarnes/class/csc226/probability/

IMPORTANT: Homework 10 grades are being collected.
12/09/14 6:09 PM

If it shows as a 0 or NS for you, do not panic. All of the grades are in the Pyrenees software, so regardless of what WebAssign says right now, if you did the work it has been accounted for.

IMPORTANT: Test Re-works for Guaranteed C Policy
12/09/14 6:02 PM

These were due BEFORE THE LAST DAY OF CLASS as stated on the syllabus. I notice many of you are still working on them.

If you want a TA to check over your reworked test problems and you have uploaded them to Piazza, please respond here with an @ link to the post where you uploaded them. I will be grading these all tonight.

If you did this work before the due date but a TA has not checked / you have not uploaded them to Piazza, you have a few options.
A: I am in EB3 Lobby right now. I wills stay here until 7:30 PM and can check them then.
B: Make a thread titled: "Test Reworks - Your Name" for only you and the instructors, and upload pictures of the reworked problems. PLEASE MAKE SURE I can read the pictures. I will not grade unreadable submissions.

C: Show them to a TA after you take the test.

We would prefer that you do options A or B. Thank you.

IMPORTANT: Ungraded Homework Piazza Uploads
12/09/14 5:49 PM

If you have parts of homeworks that you uploaded here instead of on WebAssign and you don't think they have been graded, please post IN THIS THREAD with a link to the post where you uploaded them, your name, and the homework. I will check them immediately as they come in and award points where needed.

Thank you.

Survey on Deep Thought
12/04/14 4:35 PM

Dear students,

The Deep Thought tutor you used for Lab 1 (the graphical browser-based one) is new. Therefore, we would like to ask you to complete a survey about it to let us know whether it helped you learn proofs.
