CPSC 311: CPSC 311: Definition of Programming Languages

Steve is having office hours in his office (ICCS 239) at the following times:

• 5 Dec 11-12:30

Between the two of them, Pax and Steve have office hours in a room suitable for a small horde:

The exam is on 16 Dec.

Sorry to cut so close to the deadline for posting this (today!), but the practice final exam is now posted. Note that we may update some of the wording as we review the actual final exam in more detail.

As usual we EXTRAORDINARILY STRONGLY recommend working these problems.

The actual final exam will be open-book, open-notes with the same rules as previous exams (no electronic devices, only a reasonable amount of paper aides). The exam will have both an individual portion (probably ~75 minutes) and a group portion (probably ~50 minutes).

Your grade will be the maximum of your individual grade and 85% of your individual grade plus 15% of your group grade. HOWEVER, we reserve the right to apply the "you must pass the final to pass the course" requirement to only the individual component.


Based on feedback from the TAs, some clarifications:

• We don't expect you to describe the environments or include any "dashed lines" in the runtime call tree.
  
• When you circle the continuation of evaluation of an expression in the runtime call tree, circle ALL PARTS OF THE TREE that are in the continuation (but be cautious about parent/ancestor nodes: some may have computation still to perform while others may not!).
  

All grades except project 5 and the final exam are now posted. You should check them! We only guarantee to accept disputes of grades until the day before the final exam.

For the midterms in particular: We used the automatic scanning system to pull grades from the covers of your midterm exams. It occasionally makes errors (like the 0 it gave one student rather than 10 on a question).

On the final exam, we'll hand-check every exam against the recognized scores. On midterms, we leave that to you!

So, check your grades, and report if there's a mismatch.

Remember: your midterm grade should be the larger of your individual grade and [(0.85 * individual) + (0.15 * group)].
