Hello Class ,
Here are some points which I said I will clarify after my discussion with some of the students. After discussion with Dr. Wang , I write this.
1. By default , a Simple Graph doesn't have loops. Only , if we add a statement that we are allowing loops can a Simple graph be allowed to have loops.
2. As far as the difference between Prim's and Kruksal Algorithm is considered they both yield the same result , the difference lies in the process.Slide 23 , Note 14 gives the differences with an example.
3. In regard to the Multiple choice Q.9 in Unit 4. If we take the option (c) . A connected graph doesn't mean a tree , a connected graph with no cycles means a tree. So we can have cycles here. That option is not valid as you can have 6 or more cycles with 10 edges and 7 vertices which violates the condition of 6 or fewer cycles.

You can bring one letter size paper (8.5" by 11") for notes (front and back, hand written) for Midterm. Write down your name on the paper, and turn this in with your test. No other resources are allowed.
Every student should receive this email from gradesource. I'm post it here in case that email didn't go through.
I’d like to make a few announcements/reminders for CSE 21, Summer Session II.
First, CSE 21 midterm is on Monday, August 19th, 2013 from 2:00 P.M. to 3:20 P.M., Please attend it on time.
Second, quiz 2 and its solutions are available online http://users.sdsc.edu/~jianwu/CSE21/quiz2.pdf, http://users.sdsc.edu/~jianwu/CSE21/quiz2-solutions.pdf . Please check them.
Third, quiz two has choice questions because it will need less writing. But I found they have one disadvantage, which is that all points of the question will be lost if the answer is wrong. So for future tests (including midterm), it is optional for you to write analysis on the choice questions. If your choice is correct, you will get full credit even without analysis. If your choice is not correct, you could still get partial credit based on your analysis. Because it is a new rule, it doesn’t apply to quiz 2.
Fourth, office hours before Midterm are: 1) Friday 10:30 - 11:30 A.M. and 4:30 - 5:30 P.M. Room E355, SDSC Building, hosted by Jianwu Wang (if you cannot find the room, call 858-534-5110); 2) Sunday at 4-7pm, Room B275, CSE Building, hosted by Atyansh Jaiswal (AJ); 3) Monday 10:00 A.M. - 12:00 P.M, Room B275, CSE Building, hosted by Uday Khandelwal. You can also ask help on piazza: http://piazza.com/ucsd/summer2013/cse21.
