Description

The objective of this course is to introduce a wide variety of mathematical and statistical tools, methods, and modeling techniques to Computer Scientists. This course will be closely related to an introductory course on Operations Research. In this course, we will develop and make use of on the core concepts covered in Calculus, Linear Algebra, and Introduction to Probability Theory courses. It will introduce methods that have wide applications in upper-level courses such as Algorithm Design, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Image Processing, and Network Performance Analysis. The students will also be introduced to the tools that are available and will be required to use these tools and to write their own programs in R or Matlab to solve computational problems. Due to the unavailability of a suitable textbook that covers most of the topics, below in the syllabus I have mentioned the different chapters with will be assigned as required reading for each topic. We will have regular problem solving classes every other week.
